We as management try to do everything we can to give our employees ALL of the resources we can to do the best job they can. Fortunealtely for us, we are not contrained with above market capital costs that comes from paying a premium for the assets. This is the single most important issue we have going for us as a small region provider. I have seen in many cases with the large "newly acquired" chains that they do make decisions in a vacuum that can and do indirectly impact patient care.

On the other hand, you make an outstanding point. ALL providers are faced with labor shortages that make it very difficult to terminate good employees that have a bad day and do something like what you describe in your story. Also, I can't tell you how much time gets consumed replacing call outs everywhere. It's never seen as the employees fault when we are short staffed, it's managements because we are the ones that must scramble to replace those last minute call outs.
